Samsung Solve for Tomorrow – With over 50,000 registrations from throughout India, Samsung India’s national education and innovation competition Solve for Tomorrow has received enormous participation from students across India. Youth from Begusarai, Chitradurga, Dharwad, Gulbarga, Jalpaiguri, Khurda, North 24 Parganas, Madhubani, and Pathanamthitta, in particular, have submitted their ideas, highlighting their growing desire to find innovative technology solutions to real-world problems that will have a positive social impact on the lives of people around them.
The top three teams in the tournament will compete for INR 1.5 crore to put their ideas into reality.
The flagship CSR programme of India’s largest electronics brand recognises the power of innovative solutions and their ability to transform lives, and is seeking ideas from young people aged 16 to 22 on four key themes: education and learning, environment and sustainability, health and wellness, and diversity and inclusion.
So far, 49% of ideas have revolved around the theme of Education & Learning, while 28% of young people have selected the theme of Environment & Sustainability as the inspiration for their inventive ideas. Health & Wellness received 18% of the applications, while Diversity & Inclusion received 5%. 73% of individuals who have submitted applications are between the ages of 18 and 22.
Youth from across India have submitted proposals to address real-world issues such as e-waste management, recycling of marine plastic waste, circular economy, climate change, agricultural yields, providing clean water, healthcare costs, mental health, accident prevention, improving teaching systems in schools and colleges, and rural job creation.
Samsung Solve for Tomorrow
Samsung will then choose the top 30 teams (individuals or teams of up to three members) from the applications received. These top 30 teams will be coached and mentored by Samsung and its partners – Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi and MeitY Startup Hub – during a residential bootcamp at IIT Delhi, assisting participants in improving their concepts.
The top 30 teams will also receive INR 20,000 apiece to develop preliminary prototypes before pitching their ideas to a jury of young Samsung employees and experts from FITT, IIT Delhi, and MeitY Startup Hub. This jury will also choose the top ten teams for the grand finale. Each of the top ten teams will get INR 100,000 to improve their prototypes based on comments from jury members and mentors.
These teams will also be able to tour Samsung India offices, R&D centres, design centres, and the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru, where they will meet with young Samsung employees and researchers.
The yearly programme will conclude with the announcement of three national winners, each of whom will get INR 1.5 crore in prize money and new Samsung products.
Solve for Tomorrow, which began in the United States in 2010, is now active in 63 countries worldwide, with over 2.3 million young people participating.
