Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), today inaugurated a Telemedicine clinic in the Kanpur Dehat and Sitapur area of Uttar Pradesh’s Mangalpur, Moosanagar, Rajpur, Macharehta, and Pisavan villages. The state now has 5 telemedicine clinics in operation. The telemedicine clinics are an offshoot of HMIF’s ‘Sparsh Sanjeevani’ social outreach effort, which focuses on making excellent and cheap medical treatments available to rural India through technology.
Mr. Puneet Anand, AVP & Vertical Head – Corporate Affairs, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., commented on the inauguration, saying, “Hyundai is committed to ‘Progress for Humanity,’ and through our various CSR initiatives under the global CSR philosophy of ‘CONTINUE,’ we have been giving back to society in various ways under the CSR pillar of ‘Hope.” We believe that a healthy population is the foremost requirement for development. To that end, our ‘Sparsh Sanjeevani’ telemedicine clinics connect specialists in metro areas to the rural population, making excellent consultations available right at the rural population’s doorstep. It intends to improve the community’s overall health index over time, while also positively benefiting the economy through increased attendance and increased economic activity.”

Telemedicine clinics are nurse-assisted clinics in which the patient is assessed by a nurse who understands the problem and then connects him or her to the appropriate empanelled specialist through video call. Following the consultation, the nurse writes the prescription and dispenses the medications. The technology also allows for follow-ups. The entire service, including drugs, costs only Rs 100. The clinics are linked to labs that perform basic pathology and blood tests. Serious cases are directed to district healthcare facilities and government-run multi-specialty hospitals in districts where ‘Sparsh Sanjeevani’ Telemedicine Clinics are in existence.
The clinics are administered in collaboration with Karma Healthcare, a prominent social company in this field. The clinics that are now operating in other states have gotten an extremely favourable response from the general public, with many ailments being treated at the outset, preventing them from worsening. Health camps for cancer screening, eye exams, and general screening will be held on a regular basis.
With this effort, the Hyundai Motor India Foundation hopes to improve the nation’s health index one district and one state at a time.
