Group Legrand India Reconstructs Flood-Ravaged School in Barpeta, Assam

As part of their social endeavour, Group Legrand India, the leading provider of electrical and digital building infrastructure, repaired the flood-damaged Kharballi L.P. School in Barpeta, Assam. This project exemplifies Group Legrand India’s social commitment to education and disaster relief, with the primary goal of restoring hope and creating a brighter future for the children devastated by the tragic floods of 2022.

The Kharballi L.P. School, located among the placid banks of the majestic Brahmaputra River near Barpeta, Assam, once radiated tranquillity and served to 370 children from three villages. However, in 2022, the region witnessed unspeakable tragedy as floods entirely destroyed the previous school, leaving pupils with no way to continue their education.

Group Legrand India conducted the total renovation of the school in close partnership with the community and United Way India, reigniting hope among the pupils and instilling a spirit of resilience. Group Legrand India created employment possibilities and fostered a strong feeling of community connection by engaging local villagers for the building.

The newly rebuilt school is now a symbol of optimism and resilience. The school’s cutting-edge facilities and resources provide a suitable learning atmosphere that nurtures each child’s potential. The goal is to empower youngsters in Barpeta, Assam, so that they can thrive academically and realise their goals.

“Education is of utmost importance for our community,” said Ms. Mafida Khatoon, Head Teacher of Kharballi L.P. School. This school serves three villages on this island, and after our old school was damaged by floods, we banded together and erected a temporary shelter for our children to continue their education. Group Legrand India’s assistance in constructing the new school has been a huge relief. Student enrollment has increased significantly since the new building’s construction began. More children have been drawn by the enhanced facilities, and we are appreciative for the assistance we have received.”

“Education is one of the key focus areas in our social initiatives, and we are delighted and filled with pride to have built this new school for these children,” said Tony Berland, CEO & MD of Group Legrand India. We truly believe that every child is entitled to an education and a safe learning environment. We are not only improving the lives of the students through this project, but we are also building a safe and caring learning environment, paving the road for a better tomorrow.”

Group Legrand India’s rebuilding of Kharballi L.P. School in Barpeta, Assam, demonstrates its commitment to improve lives.  They have empowered these children to uncover their true potential and become catalysts for the growth of their community by providing a sound educational foundation.
