Adidas invites global sporting community to Move For The Planet by turning activity into action

Move For The Planet, a brand-new global programme that will tap into the activity of sporting communities all around the world, is being unveiled by Adidas today.

For every 10 minutes of activity logged across 34 sports on the adidas Running app between June 1 and June 12 (up to €1.5m), adidas will donate €1 to Common Goal, in an effort to inspire individuals to turn their activity into action. The donations will go towards initiatives that promote sustainability in communities and educate people about it around the world.

According to Ashley Czarnowski, Senior Director of Global Purpose Marketing at adidas, “Move For The Planet is a chance to use the world’s passion of sport to benefit some of the areas who need it most. One thing that connects us all is our love of sports, even though the effects of the climate crisis are being felt more severely in some locations than others. Therefore, from June 1 to June 12, we’re urging the world’s athletes to get involved and move for the venues where they compete. It doesn’t matter how we move; what matters is that we move to change something.

Move For The Planet will donate funds raised by Common Goal to initiatives in places like Pakistan, South Africa, Colombia, and Greece. The several initiatives that have been chosen centre on some of the regions most affected by climate change, whether it be through renovating a community’s sports field using recycled materials or by offering instruction on how to lessen plastic waste in sporting venues.

Adidas is continuing its commitment to make what’s great for the athlete better for the world by incorporating Move For The world into a broader range of sustainability activities. adidas stated earlier this year that it is ahead of schedule in its goal to use recycled polyester in place of virgin polyester in all of its goods by the end of 2024. As the firm pursues its goal of making what’s great for the athlete better for the environment, Move For The Planet is a part of adidas’ larger sustainability activities. adidas stated earlier this year that it is on target to replace virgin polyester with recycled polyester in all of its goods by the end of 2024. adidas recycled 96% of the polyester it used in 2022.

However, adopting recycled materials does not indicate that the issue is resolved, and adidas’s focus has expanded with Move For The Planet beyond its 2024 recycled polyester target.
