Apple AirPods now Made-in-India

Apple AirPods – Apple has been on a mission to increase its production in India, and the AirPods are the latest addition to the list of products made in India.

Foxconn, a Taiwanese contract manufacturer, has won an order to manufacture AirPods and plans to build a factory in India to produce them, according to Reuters news, citing people familiar with the matter.

Foxconn, best known for producing roughly 70% of the world’s total iPhones, will now produce AirPods.

According to the report, Foxconn will invest more than $200 million in the new India AirPod plant in the southern Indian state of Telangana.

It went on to say that Foxconn executives had debated whether to assemble AirPods for months due to the device’s relatively low profit margins, but decided to go ahead with the deal to “reinforce engagement” with Apple.

According to the report, Apple has begun discussions about manufacturing the wireless earphone in India.

In India, Foxconn competes with companies such as Wistron and Pegatron for such orders. All of them currently have manufacturing facilities in India.

Foxconn confirmed earlier this month the establishment of a new manufacturing plant in Telangana’s Kongara Kalan. It is expected to generate more than 1 lakh jobs.
