Vedanta appoints industry Terry Daly as semiconductor biz advisor

Following the appointment of semiconductor veteran David Reed as CEO of the Vedanta-Foxconn joint venture, Indian mining company Vedanta has now engaged Terry Daly as a semiconductor business advisor.  Daly, a microelectronics industry consultant, will be in charge of providing strategic advice and feedback for the semiconductor company.

“India has a generational opportunity to become a part of the global semiconductor supply chain and provide geographic diversification to its customers, supply chain resiliency to its partners, and job creation opportunities to its extremely talented population,” Terry Daly said.

Daly was a Senior Vice President of GlobalFoundries, where he held positions as head of strategy and corporate development, chief of staff, and head of corporate program management. He was crucial in forming a strategic collaboration with Samsung on advanced technologies and in acquiring IBM’s microelectronics unit. Daly previously worked at IBM for 26 years, the most of which he spent in its semiconductor sector, where he held senior positions in business management, finance, manufacturing operations, program management, and strategy. He served in the United States Army for five years before joining IBM.

“We will hire experienced professionals (to begin with), who have actually done operations, development, processes, and have worked in factories,” Reed previously told Business Today. Our intention is to hire the top talent in the globe and then look to India.”

Vedanta has been on a global talent acquisition effort to attract semiconductor industry professionals. In April, Vedanta-Foxconn Semiconductors Limited also named Lawrence (Wong Chee Yoong) as Senior Director of Human Resources. The company is still assembling a staff of highly skilled professionals to work in its semiconductor division.
